If you feel lost about AI, you're not alone — you're in the 82% majority

Only 18% of adults over 60 are using AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude. That's not because they can't, more likely it's because most AI content is written for developers, sold with hype, or ultimately makes you feel stupid for asking your basic questions.

The gap isn't ability. It's explanation. Half of older adults think AI could help them stay independent, manage information, or simplify daily tasks. But almost none have found a clear, honest introduction that treats them like intelligent people who deserve straight answers.

This site exists to close that gap. No jargon. No hype. No assumption that you've been following AI news for five years. Just plain-English explanations of what AI actually is, what it can and can't do, and whether it's worth your time.

Read the full explanation: Why older adults aren't using AI (and why that's about to change)

Welcome to AI Explanations.

his site exists to make artificial intelligence understandable.

What You'll Find Here

Clear, jargon-free explanations of AI concepts. No hype, no unnecessary complexity, just straightforward information you can actually use.

Each explanation is written in plain language (English only, unless someone wants to volunteer to translate) and designed to be referenced whenever you need it. Think of this site as a practical reference library, not a blog or news site.

How to Use This Site

Browse the Explanations page to see all available topics, organized by category. You can also check the Terms & Abbreviations page for quick definitions.

If you're completely new to AI, these explanations are good starting points:

  • Start with foundational concepts in the Core Concepts section
  • Look up specific terms as you encounter them
  • Read explanations in any order based on what you need to understand

You may notice some concepts appear across multiple explanations - particularly around how AI makes things up, why verification matters, and data privacy concerns. This is deliberate because I know that most people won't read every explanation in order (or at all!) and these core concepts are important enough to repeat where relevant.

What This Site Isn't

This isn't a news site tracking the latest AI developments. It's not a technical manual for engineers. And it's not filled with hype about how AI will change everything.

It's a straightforward resource for understanding what AI actually is and how it works.
